Paper Paste
1/3 cup all-purpose flour (all purpose white flour or bread making flour)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon alum powder (optional preservative — not actually necessary if the glue is for immediate use)
Combine the flour and sugar. To avoid lumps, gradually add water while rapidly stirring.
Cook over low heat, stirring regularly, until the paste is clear. Remove from the heat and add the optional alum.
Using a paintbrush, apply on paper or cardboard. Before the paste dries, press and smooth the paper to be adhered.
Water Resistant Glue
1 pack of unflavored gelatin
3 1/2 teaspoons water 2 teaspoons skim milk
Soften gelatin in a small cup with cold water.
Boil the milk (a few seconds in the microwave would enough), then whisk it into the damp gelatin until all of the lumps have dissolved.
Adhesion is most effective when applied hot. Allow it to cool and gel before painting it on if it is too liquid for the surface you are attaching.
For a few days, store in a small lidded jar. Before using, warm over a pan of boiling water.
Some people have even suggested using hairspray, or Elmer’s glue, as in 1 part glue and also 3 parts water. Hope this helps!
